Why children should embrace woodland fun

Glasgow born Commonwealth Games bronze winner and London 2012 Olympian, former badminton player Susan Egelstaff, explains why it’s important for children to be active and to get outdoors.

"I was privileged to be invited to the launch of the Commonwealth Woods network at Overtoun Estate in early June.

There were loads of activities for the kids who came along to take part in and my favourite was when they made some artworks with natural clay and sawdust. All the kids had a brilliant time, even if more clay ended up on their hands and faces than on the trees!

It illustrated perfectly to me how much fun kids have when they’re outdoors. Even when it started to rain they were far too preoccupied with their games to notice."
