The Spirit of Glasgow is a new legacy programme which combines the creation of memorable moments with long-term investment.  It is the 52nd national Legacy 2014 programme.

The Spirit of 2012 Trust (Spirit) announced the £5 million legacy programme. Spirit is a new charity set up to ensure the spirit that radiated from the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics is felt by everyone, everywhere. It is investing in happiness by linking events to communities across the country. It was established by the Big Lottery Fund with a £46m endowment from the sale of the Olympic and Paralympic village.

Dugald Mackie, Chair of Spirit said “I am personally proud and delighted to see Glasgow hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games. What we are announcing is a richly varied programme that we hope will inspire, engage, enable and empower people in Glasgow, throughout Scotland and across the other countries of the UK.”

Cabinet Secretary for Commonwealth Games and Sport, Shona Robison, said: “We are committed to securing a positive lasting legacy for Scotland following the Glasgow 2014 Games. This generous input from the Spirit of 2012 Trust to create Spirit of Glasgow will further enhance our community development not just in Glasgow, but across the whole of Scotland and the UK. I welcome Spirit’s input and thank them for it.”

David Grevemberg, Chief Executive of Glasgow 2014 said: "The Spirit of 2012 Trust is investing in the legacy of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games through various initiatives that promote community engagement across the UK through sport, art, music and volunteering activity.  We are delighted that the ‘Spirit’ initiative for Glasgow 2014 has already supported people’s inclusion in the Glasgow 2014 Opening and Closing Ceremonies and Culture 2014’s project ‘The Big Big Sing.’ It is fantastic that the Trust aims to continue the fantastic and positive momentum built through London 2012 and Glasgow 2014."
